Cinematic Salons
Cinematic Salons provide an opportunity for dialogue around film artistry and bring together members of the independent film community in an informal and intimate environment. Guest artists show and discuss their work, providing a forum in which filmmakers at all stages of their careers, as well as individuals simply interested in film, can meet, discuss and learn from each other’s experiences in filmmaking. Admission as always, is by donation.

Exhibitions/Screenings
Cineworks hosts a series of theme-based guest curated screenings of Canadian Film. These screenings offer a unique opportunity for audiences to experience the variety and artistry of the short film format. The added value of knowledgable curators and guest filmmakers make the post-screening discussions a lively forum and provide rare first-hand insight about the realities of the independent film process.

Film Pool
What? The Film Pool is Cineworks annual allocation to members of 16mm and 35mm short ends and donated film.
How Does it Work? Just like a Hockey Pool…You make a list of the stocks that you would like. We take those lists and assign a random number to them. Number One gets there first choice of stock, then we move to Number Two and so on down the list until we get to the bottom and go from the bottom up the list again, until everyone lists are exhausted. Your success will depend on how popular the stocks you want are and how many people there are in the Pool.
Are You Qualified? You need to be a Production Member in Good Standing in order to qualify for the film pool. In Good Standing means that you have paid for your Production membership fee and you have no outstanding debts or volunteer hours to complete.
CAUTION: Cineworks will not be held liable for the condition of the film stock you receive. All film is stored in a cool space once it is donated to Cineworks, but it is possible that the film you receive will be mislabeled, damaged or expired. Unless you are keen on experimentation, we strongly insist you take your stocks to the lab for testing.

What is the Production Fund?
The Cineworks Production Fund was established in 1998 to encourage innovation and excellence in local independent film production. It has evolved to embrace a wide range of digital and expanded cinema projects. The Fund offers production support to Cineworks members in the form of equipment and facilities and a limited amount of services. Awarded annually, Cineworks Production Fund is generously supported by Deluxe Vancouver and Cineworks Independent Filmmakers Society.
What projects are eligible?
Projects of any length, format and genre are eligible, in all stages of production. All projects must be "independent" in nature to be eligible - that is, the artist/filmmaker retains copyright and creative control. Cineworks is looking for applicants who can demonstrate that the Production Fund will make a SIGNIFICANT contribution to the realization of their project.
Who can apply?
The person who applies for the fund MUST be the creator of the project and he or she must be a current Production member in good standing.

Production Report
Published each autumn, the Production Report is a comprehensive list of recently completed film and videos by Cineworks members. The report also contains information on the key creatives involved in each project, making the Production Report a useful resource for finding crew and building the independent filmmaking community in Vancouver.

Workshops
Workshops in the technical and creative aspects of filmmaking are offered throughout the year and are designed specifically with the independent filmmaker in mind. Our workshops help demystify the filmmaking process and teach participants how to maximize limited budgets and make the most of the resources offered by Cineworks. Workshop prices are kept low and class sizes relatively small to allow ample time for interaction with instructors and fellow participants.
If there is something specific you would like to learn, or if you have a skill you would like to share with other Cineworks members, please do not hesitate to contact Programs Manager + Curator cheyanne turions.
