Cardboard Cutout (2006)

Carl is an introverted and withdrawn man who works in a cardboard factory. He spends his spare time in a meagre SRO (single room occupancy) creating sculptures from salvaged cardboard.  The only person Carl communicates with is Mike, a petty thief and co-worker.

When Mike coerces Carl into a break-and-enter, Carl becomes infatuated with the apartment and its occupants’ belongings. The apartment happens to belong to their boss and is a stark contrast to the tiny, uninviting space he calls home.

After re-entering the apartment on several occasions to marvel at the space, Carl moves in one level above. He begins to make meticulous replicas of the objects in his boss' home. As Carl works on transforming his fantasy into a reality, the viewer begins to question what is ‘real.’
