Thought on Film II
February 26 2008
MONTHLY READING + DISCUSSION GROUP EXPLORING CINEMA + CINEMATIC PRACTICE THROUGH WRITTEN WORDS
A monthly reading + discussion group, Thought on Film aims to promote critical thought around film product and practice through community-based discussion. Rooted in our membership but open to the public, Thought on Film fosters the close reading of texts confronting issues in contemporary, cutting-edge cinematic practice and philosophy.
Proceeding from last month’s reading, February’s meeting will continue the discussion of Gilles Deleuze’s Cinema 1. Moving from a theoretical exploration of Bergon’s three theses on the movement image, Deleuze will now attempt to show how these ideas relate to pre-WWII cinema. Here, the abstract concepts of chapter 1 are given a concrete instantiation. But what does this mean and what do they look like?
Experimenting with the form of reading groups and theirs discussions, this month’s selection will be read out loud by participants. No pre-reading required!
If you should experience any difficulty locating Deleuze's Cinema 1 [a very real possibility] or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Programs Manager cheyanne turions at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
