THOUGHT ON FILM V MONTHLY READING + DISCUSSION GROUP EXPLORING CINEMA + CINEMATIC PRACTICE THROUGH WRITTEN WORDS
A monthly reading + discussion group, Thought on Film aims to promote critical thought around film product and practice through community-based discussion. Rooted in our membership but open to the public, Thought on Film fosters the close reading of texts confronting issues in contemporary, cutting-edge cinematic practice and philosophy.
Proceeding from last month’s reading, May’s meeting will continue the discussion of Gilles Deleuze’s Cinema 1. Moving from an analysis of mobility through montage and the movement of the camera, we will explore montage as a whole, as the composition of movement images and the indirect image of time. Interested parties are encouraged to jump into the reading at any point and to draw strange connections to their practice, be it film or not.
Experimenting with the form of reading groups and theirs discussions, this month’s selection will be read out loud by participants. No pre-reading required!
If you should experience any difficulty locating Deleuze's Cinema 1 [a very real possibility] or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Programs Manager cheyanne turions.
