WORKSHOP - EXPANDED CINEMA: APPARATUS AND METHODOLOGY
Led by Cineworks 2011 LAIR (Local Artist in Residence), this workshop explores 16 mm and S8 materials and apparatus repurposing, as it relates specifically to gallery or expanded cinema methodologies - how projection devices and emulsion permit an expansion of potential and re-purposing of function. This could include overriding motor systems, using dimmers to reduce bulb and motor speeds, multiple projection and ganging of motor systems, realignment of framing devices, etc. This is approached with a derelict projector or two in hand which are picked apart as a group in order to understand the mechanisms involved and their potential alterations.
