LAIR (Local Artist in Residence) 2011: ALEX MACKENZIE

Cineworks Independent Filmmakers Society is pleased to announce its 2011 LAIR (Local Artist in Residence) Alex MacKenzie.MacKenzie is an experimental film artist working primarily with analogue equipment and hand-processed imagery. He creates works of expanded cinema, light projection installation, and projector performance. His work has screened at the Rotterdam International Film Festival, the EXiS Experimental Film Festival in Seoul, Lightcone in Paris, Kino Arsenal in Berlin and others. MacKenzie was the founder and curator of the Edison Electric Gallery of Moving Images, the Blinding Light!! Cinema and the Vancouver Underground Film Festival. While in residence, he will be completing two film works that explore both the urban waterfront and the environs adjacent to Cineworks’ Annex space in Gastown. MacKenzie will be actively investigating and manipulating handmade emulsions throughout the filmmaking process and will be presenting completed works at the Annex in Winter 2012. In addition, he will be conducting a workshop on expanded cinema practices through Cineworks in May. He is available for public studio visits by appointment through Programs Manager and Curator Jennifer Cane.
