About Cineworks
Cineworks Independent Filmmakers Society was formed to promote and encourage the production, distribution, and exhibition of independent film in British Columbia. Functioning as a production co-operative, Cineworks provides its members with the production and post-production equipment, facilities, information, related support structures, and environment necessary for independent filmmaking.
The society also offers member services and programming initiatives in the form of networking opportunities, hands-on workshops and seminars with visiting filmmakers, an active website, a monthly newsletter, and the programming of independent Canadian films. Cineworks arranges and presents public exhibitions and discussions aimed at increasing film awareness and knowledge and encouraging a growth of film analysis.
In addition to our main Howe St. location, Cineworks also runs an analogue filmmaking studio in the Railtown area. This analogue annex is an open studio space, focusing on optical printing, film processing/printing, animation, installation, exhibition and mixed media.
Cineworks has an active membership of over 200 filmmakers who are involved in a variety of aspects of independent filmmaking on an ongoing basis. Cineworks was incorporated as a non-profit society in 1980, and in 1983 was recognized as a charitable organization by Revenue Canada.
