Sync sound, fairly lightweight, detachable mags, quiet, these were the 16mm cameras which made possible the whole cinema verite‚ or direct cinema‚ schools of documentary filmmaking (Salesman, Gimme Shelter, and countless NFB docs) and which defined documentary filmmaking for years. They were also used to shoot numerous low budget dramatic features, and scads of shorts. The NPR is the earlier incarnation- heavier, but, some say, more durable. (Others just say heavier.‚)
