CINEWORKS AND PACIFIC CINEMATHEQUE PRESENT: BACK DOWN THE HIGHWAY/ HIGHWAY 61
In 1991, then emerging Canadian filmmaker Bruce McDonald cemented his place in Canadian film history with his seminal road movie HIGHWAY 61, inspiring a generation to pick up a camera and shoot. In 2012, four teams of emerging Vancouver-based filmmakers were given a chance to reconsider the genre of road movies through Cinework’s first ever short film contest. The result: four new short films inspired by dialogue from HIGHWAY 61 plus a rare 35mm print screening of MacDonald’s film. Celebrations continue with an opportunity to meet the contest-winning filmmakers at the after-party.
