EXPERIMENTAL ORIGINS: INTRO TO OPTICAL PRINTING / HAND PROCESSING AND HAND COLOURIZING

An intensive two day hands-on workshop that will teach participants three fundamental techniques of experimental cinema: optical printing, hand processing, and hand colourizing/toning.  The first day is devoted to the printing potentials of the Cineworks Oxberry optical printer, while the second day will be spent hand processing and toning at the Annex.  Optical effects including fades, dissolves, masks, motion changes, and re-framing will be taught. After the shots are printed, they will learn how to hand process and add color to their printed film. It is encouraged that participants bring their own 16 mm printed images (either processed reversal or a workprint). Film stock (for the optical printer) and chemicals are included in the cost of the workshop.

DATE AND TIME: Saturday Oct. 2 and Sunday Oct. 3, 10 am-4 pm

LOCATION: Cineworks (Howe) and Cineworks Annex

COST: $120 for members before Sept. 18

$140 members/ $180 non-members after Sept. 18

Instructor:  For the past decade, film artist cj brabant has worked to continuously explore the regeneration and reformatting of the small gauge film image.  Removing elements from their original space, his films work to create a new spaces for the viewer, new ways of seeing what we see everyday. specialized in optical manipulations, colour separation, and alternative processing techniques, cj's innovative work continues to screen internationally, most recently with his 35mm work "the fall".

INTRO TO FINAL CUT PRO

CORE BASICS FOR THE INDEPENDENT FILMMAKER

In this one day workshop students will learn capturing, basic editing, titling and effects, as well as outputting options for tape and DVD. This workshop features a mix of seminar, hands-on training and practice time, giving students plenty of opportunity to take notes and hone their new skills. Great for the first time user or the self taught FCP editor looking to improve their techniques.

Combine this workshop with the next day's Intermediate Final Cut Pro for an intensive weekend experience!

INSTRUCTOR: AARON MALLIN is a local Vancouver Director.  From artistic endeavors and video production to national broadcast campaigns, Aaron is a unique balance of creative energy and output. Aaron has dozens of commercial broadcast credits and several music videos to his name.  Although his preferred media is video it isn't uncommon to find him drawing, writing or doing graphic design.
