June 9th, 2026 - July 8th, 2026Introduction to Analog Film: SRII Series
A 5-session, hands-on workshop series on learning the ARRIFLEX 16 SRII analog camera led by Vancouver-based cinematographer Agustin Calderon.
-
Step into the world of analog filmmaking with this hands-on introduction to the ARRIFLEX SRII, one of the most widely used 16mm motion picture cameras in professional film production.
Across five sessions, participants will learn the fundamentals of shooting on film through a combination of technical instruction and practical experience, including:
– Camera setup and operation
– Film loading and unloading
– Exposure and light metering with a Sekonic meter
– Shooting on 16mm film
– Motion picture film processing in a darkroom environment
Working in small teams of three to four people, participants will rotate through key camera and lighting roles while shooting original footage on 16mm film, gaining firsthand experience with the tools, workflow, and collaborative practices of analog filmmaking.
Participants will also learn the basics of developing motion picture film in the Cineworks Analog Resources Lab darkrooms. The series concludes with a private screening of the group's unedited footage in the Cineworks Black Box studio.
Whether you're new to analog film or looking to deepen your understanding of the medium, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to experience the complete 16mm filmmaking process—from camera to darkroom to screen.
Participants will receive a digitized copy of the unedited footage a few weeks after the series concludes.

I’m Agustín Calderón, a cinematographer and director born and raised in Mexico, now living in Vancouver.
With over 30 years of experience in advertising, visual effects, and product cinematography, I’ve had the privilege of working with global brands such as Coca-Cola, Nestlé, Pepsico, and Unilever—creating high-end visuals that merge technical precision with creative storytelling.
In parallel to my commercial work, I’ve dedicated part of my career to teaching and mentoring the next generation of filmmakers. I’ve taught at prestigious film schools and universities in Latin America, as well as in non-profit organizations in Canada, such as at CineWorks Independent Filmmakers Society.
My teaching style is hands-on, clear, and rooted in the belief that mastering cinematography is not just about knowing the tools, but about understanding the “why” behind each visual choice. In my ARRI SRII workshop, students will gain practical, production-ready skills while also developing their ability to tell compelling visual stories with confidence and creativity.
