Dragon Stop Motion as the name indicates, is software for shooting stop motion animations. The program allows you to hook up a video / photo / webcam input source and take stills which can then be reorganized into scenes. There are a couple of powerful features in this highly specialized tool which make this process a lot easier. One useful thing is the ability to control camera settings (aperture, focus, shutter speed, etc) from the software itself without having to adjust it on the physical device. Another great thing is the ability to toggle between past shots and the live preview which helps to align past shots to the next one and thus establishing a greater continuity. Related to this is the “short play” ability which plays back the last 12 frames. Users can also setup time lapsed shots and export to multiple formats (JPG, Quicktime, etc.) Once enough shots or frames are taken, the X-sheet view allows you to edit and manage them.

  1. Equipment rentals are available to members at the rates listed below. However if you're a non-member wanting to rent equipment, please contact equipment@cineworks.ca. Non-members will be charged a deposit.
  2. Don’t forget to check your equipment invoice against your actual gear before you leave. You will be held responsible for any discrepancies or non-working gear upon return.
  3. You are responsible for how everything you rent is used, even if someone else on your crew is using it.
  4. Packages with replacement values of $5,000+ will require insurance coverage.
  5. When renting facilities, make sure you are comfortable with the alarm protocol before you leave. No one will be here to help you should the alarm go off. Setting the alarm off will incur fines.
  6. Friday equipment rentals are billed at weekend rates (1.5 days) and are due back on Mondays. No exceptions.
  7. If you rent for a full week (7 days), you are charged only a 4-day rental.
  8. Day rentals are for 24-hour days.
  9. We are open 12PM-6PM Monday to Friday. Please keep in mind that gear can only be picked up between those times, by appointment.
  10. Renting at member rates is limited to independent projects in which the member personally has creative/copyright control.
  11. Remember to submit your project details to our registry.

Studio dimension: 33' x 21' x 15'

Well soundproofed, with lighting grid and plenty of power outlets. Comes with a 20'x 20' green screen mounted on rails. Excellent for shooting, rehearsals, and auditions at an unbeatable rate for this central downtown location. 24hr access available.

The studio also features a 7'x 14' projection screen, 5.1 surround sound system, 1080p projector, and Blu-ray player. Comes with tables and chairs. Comfortably seats 40, and great for intimate screenings.

Meeting Room

$40/day, $120/wk

Located at our Howe St. space, the meeting room seats 6-8 people and can be rented for meetings, or as a green room space in conjunction with the studio.

Insurance.

It is the responsibility of the member in whose name the equipment is rented to ensure that they carry adequate insurance. Members who rent Cineworks equipment assume full responsibility in the case of personal injury, damage or loss. Cineworks will require an insurance certificate for package rentals with replacement values of $5000 or more.

Qualifying Production members may be able to access equipment and liability insurance through a program Cineworks has arranged with our broker Multimedia Risk.

Film Processing and Transfers.

Cineworks offers processing of 8mm and 16mm film as a service to members and the general public alike. Using our Cramer processor, we are one of the only labs operating in North America to still offer machine-processing and we're very excited to work on your next film. We are also happy to announce that members of any film co-op across Canada qualify for our member rates and encourage filmmakers to seek these organizations out. Film will be processed as we collect enough footage to constitute a minimum batch size, but we'll be sure to advise of any delays.
